Assistant Manager of Academic Support

Summit Counseling Solutions Summit Counseling Solutions Provo, UT Provo, UT Part-time Full-time Part-time Full-time $18 - $20 an hour $18 - $20 an hour 13 days ago 13 days ago 13 days ago About SCS We are a PHP (Partial Hospitalization) facility that serves adolescents age 12 - 17 who struggle with mental health and or behavioral health decline.
Our program does not admit high acuity cases.
There is little to no threat of physical safety for staff members, our clients do not live here, our clients go home to their families every day.
It's important to note the differences between our level of care and others (such as residential facilities or inpatient hospitals).
Our clients have often been to these other types of facilities in the past, but are further along in their journey and need less assistance with basic safety and functioning.
Academics and SCS SCS is not a School, and this is intentional.
We prioritize keeping our clients enrolled in their existing schools and help them maintain or recover credit with their existing teachers and school counselors by bringing that schoolwork to us.
Most schools in the community are happy to assist with this and understand that their students are temporarily managing mental health issues.
We belive that keeping clients enrolled in their regular schools will allow them to transition back to school with ease.
An essential part of our mission to guide Utah adolescents on their road to resilience in the face of mental health crises involves facilitating academic progress.
There is a powerful link between student mental health and academic competence.
When one suffers so does the other.
Our relationship with schools allows us to support student learning while providing the therapeutic support they need.
Once a student has completed the requisite therapy to maintain safety and stabilization, and as long as it is in their best interest, they will be ready to reintegrate to their brick-and-mortar school at the direction of their family and primary therapist.
Your job as an Assistant Program Manager will be to help maintain, recover, and coordinate the academic needs of the client while they are enrolled as a client at Summit Counseling Solutions.
Our students typically come to us after completing a stay in residential treatment or inpatient hospitalization, usually after an incident related to safety and stabalization (such as suicide ideation, suicide attempt, self harm, or major mental health decline).
Clients in this positions often experience a decline in functioning at home and in school as a result of their mental health challenges.
The average length of stay in our day treatment program is 10-12 weeks.
They may also speand 10 weeks in our evening IOP program (Academic intervention is not required to be maintained in this program).
How We Accomplish our Mission While these students are in our day treatment program, they are taught positive coping and self-management skills to prepare them for a smooth transition and reintegration to everyday life and school.
We coordinate with the student's school counselors and teachers to receive schoolwork and help the student create goals to maintain requisite academic progress.
Each day, we work with the student to complete that schoolwork and, in turn, submit it to their teachers to ensure they remain as credit-current as possible.
We also work with the student's parents and school to identify what accommodations they may need for school in the form of an IEP or 504.
Students who come to Summit Counseling Solutions for day treatment can progress academically in several ways.
We find that many students have the most success when they can work with their school's counselor and teachers to complete schoolwork along with their peers.
Conversely, some students perform better if they are signed up for online courses with more flexible due dates.
In whatever form, and in every case, we have seen an increase in confidence and functioning in our students as they have been able to receive support to complete coursework and stay as on-track for graduation as possible.
